It is no secret that San Francisco has been the most cautious of all major cities about reopening these past few years due to Covid. The reviews are mixed about that being good thing or a bad thing. Regardless of where you fall on that opinion scale, some of our favorite places have shut down during the past 3 years and in our neighborhood around the salon in particular it has at times felt like a ghost town. The city IS still alive though and I for one am ready to soak up the magic of San Francisco again.

I know most of my clients are now commuting to come in and get their hair done so I thought it would be fun to put together a list of things you can do, right here in San Francisco before or after your hair appointments.

1. Visit a New or Beloved Restaurant!

We have all felt some sort of hardship throughout these past 3 years but the restaurant industry is by far been hit the hardest. San Francisco has some of the worlds most delicious and diverse food but it has always been combined with long lines and difficulty getting a seat. Enter, your silver lining! Now you can totally get a seat at that place you’ve always wanted to try or not have to wait in that long line that keeps you away the next time you are in the city getting your hair done. Use this time as an opportunity to reconnect with old city friends over a delicious craveable meal or a quick drink. Check out this list of San Francisco restaurants you must try, if you haven’t already!

2. Visit a Museum

This is a tip I actually received from some of you! I have clients all the time come in on a day they are visiting a museum with their kids or as a quick parent day together away from the kids. There are so many incredible little museums you don’t even know exist right around the corner from the salon. Did you know there is a book binding museum? Yea, it’s called American Bookbinders Museum and I only know about it because one of you, work there. We also have a cartoon museum, called Cartoon Art Museum. Here is a list of museums both big and small you may not think of that you can pop into during a day trip to the city for your hair!

3. Visit a Rooftop

I started reading a novel the other night and in the opening chapter of the book the main character talks about using google earth to find a nearby rooftop and that is pretty much the most genius idea I have ever heard! Public rooftops in San Francisco are not a total secret but if I am being honest, finding them has always sort of felt like it to me. Personally I would love to spend a year, finding all the public rooftops around the salon and having picnics on them, or even just reading a couple of chapters of whatever I am reading at the time. Maybe I will do that this year and next year I will be able to share my own blog post about it with you, for now, one of may favorite San Francisco blogger has me covered.

4. Go Shopping

Let’s be real, most of us haven’t stepped foot into a store in the past 3 years. Even for groceries! We all found out the beauty of Instacart, Ubereats, Gopuff, etc. and some of us haven’t looked back. I am guilty too don’t worry no judgement here. Every once in a while though I hear from a client in for an appointment talking about heading to Union Square to find a new outfit to go with their new hair and I cannot imagine a better time to head to a store to find your next best outfit! Talk about feeling confident and powerful strutting into a high end store, feeling your best with your new hair, getting to feel the fabrics and try things on! It’s time we ditch online shopping, I want all of us to find our wardrobes this way. One hair appointment and outfit at a time. Once again, I have an article for you to help guide your way to shopping in the city.

5. Parks, Parks, Parks

Obviously San Francisco is known for one of the most magnificent parks, in my opinion. Golden Gate Park has so many nooks and crannies you could explore for years, and hopefully you have or plan to. Do you know though, that there are HUNDREDS of little parks around the city that are open to the public and some offering a little more privacy than others. I know our recent weather hasn’t screamed, let’s go sit in a park or rooftop but, I promise those days are ahead. Pick up some lunch or pack a picnic and stop by one of the gorgeous parks talked about in our next list of places before or after your next hair appointment.

6. Walking Tours

San Francisco is rich with stories about the things that have happened in it throughout the past 150 years. Wanna know how rich? There are 80 different walking tours a valuable for free happening around the city every single day! Can you imagine how many stories there are to share if you can fill up the information in a walking tour without boring your audience? We have a few clients of the salon that lead these tours and they LOVE it. This is also how I know, they have many more stories to share but not enough time in a day to share them. Check out the next link to see what kind of walking tours are happening around our salons neighborhood and might be available for you to jump into after your next hair appointment!

7. An Evening Event to Look Your Best For

The San Francisco Symphony, Opera House, a Play or Ballet…the choices are endless when it comes to fancy evenings you might need your hair done before. Now that the salon is open on Fridays and Saturdays, I am happy to say you can come in to get ready before your next big event for event styling. Reach out if you need your make up done as well, I may be able to help arrange someone to get booked in one of my neighboring salons, or a traveling makeup artist to come into the salon to get you ready. These things are possible with an inquiry in advance so I can get the planning in order. Next up we have list of random events happening all over San Francisco in 2023. This list also includes parades and such you may want to pay attention to. Our location being right on Market Street is convenient most of the time but some races and parades also go straight down our street blocking your way in, making driving in a pain. Bart helps keep us accessible though so just plan accordingly and remember, we have a market street view now so you may be able to watch Pride Parades (and others of course) from my front view window if you book in advance!!

Wow, I have been wanting to write a post like this for a long time and I am so happy I finally did. Not only has it hopefully brought some ideas to your mind for things you can do while you are in the city for your next hair appointment, it brought some ideas to my head as well. We are so lucky to have incredible San Francisco right here for us to enjoy every day. Our city has some quirks to it but it is also a place people travel from all over the world from for an opportunity to spend a few days here.

It’s time to dust off out bucket lists and take advantage on the Bay Areas main attraction!

Cheers!
